About This Tool
An educational tool for Environmental Science students to apply BC Schedule 3.1 contamination thresholds in a Phase I ESA context.
BC Contaminated Sites Regulation
The CSR governs site remediation in BC. Schedule 3.1 sets numerical concentration limits for soil and groundwater based on land use and site conditions.
Phase I, II & III ESAs
Phase I: Non-intrusive historical review to identify potential contaminants of concern. No sampling.
Phase II: Physical sampling analyzed by a lab to confirm contamination.
This tool bridges Phase I and II by helping users understand applicable thresholds and screen preliminary lab results.
Phase III: Detailed investigation and remediation planning to define the extent of contamination and identify appropriate next steps.
Limitations
- Does not include all regulated substances
- Does not account for background concentrations
- Simplifies pathway applicability
- Threshold data may not reflect current regulatory amendments
- Only uses Schedule 3.1 right now; more standards may be added in the future
